We are pleased to announce the launch of our very first artist residency, “The Blue House Project!” This residency is inspired by our creative placemaking programs initiative in partnership with Franklin Common.
The artists in Austin make this city a unique and incredible place to live, and we want to continue cultivating their creative spirit. We know that space for artists is often scarce and expensive in the city, and our goal is to support promising artists with access to resources and a space to showcase their work.
This residency offers artists the following:
200 sqft work studio
3-acre open lot
$500 stipend for supplies
In their 6-week residency, artists produce a “Meet the Artist” event and offer open studio hours to share their work with the community. Artists in residence are chosen by an independent selection committee composed of local leaders in the art and nonprofit community.
Thank you to our artist residency selection panel:
Coka Trevino, Faiza Kracheni, Breanna Byrd, Dr. George Vargas, and Rev. Devon Odems.
Meet our Current Resident!
Mark your calendars to Meet the Artist Event: Saturday, January 14, 2023, 2:00-4:00 pm
JACOB GUZMAN IG www.instagram.com/marsboxx/ MORE www.jacobrguzman.com/ “Most of my work is large-scale, creating a fully immersive experience for viewers. The scale of my work allows viewers to step foot into my perception of the topic of choice. I make obvious statements by incorporating text in my work, also frequently using symbolism and imagery. Both aspects of my work are easily digestible, open-ended, and left for interpretation. Vibrancy in my color choice tends to be a central point of attraction to my work, and subject matter tends to be what keeps viewers involved. My artistic practice includes, but is not limited to, painting, carpentry, fabrication, mural work, community art, and poetry. I taught myself to build canvases, frames, stretcher bars, and other personalized supports for my pieces. I readily use repurposed materials or objects for frames, surfaces to work on, and sculptures as a sustainable practice. |

Works of art I have created are often inspired and focused on introspection and self-reflection. My pieces represent my journey through my mind and the avenues of experiences that have led me to be who I am now. My collection of work was conducted in a place of self-isolation, free from distraction and outside perspectives. A strong focal point in my artistic process is to bring forth subconscious thoughts to gain knowledge of self, processing otherwise unknown trains of thought through meditation by painting. My collection of work challenges viewers' thoughts on the experiences of people of color born or living in poverty and the survival responses misunderstood by the dominant society, tenderly conveying familiarity to those who can relate.”
