Mosaic Mural of Susana Almanza

From July 15-17, 2022 Raasin in the Sun, in collaboration with Something Cool Studios, Mural Arts Philadelphia, the city of Austin, the East Environmental Initiative, Mosaic Art Supply, and The Atx Mosaic Workshop, came together with the community to create this 100 square foot glass tile walking mosaic of Susana Almanza!

Who is Susana Almanza?

Susana is one of the founders and the executive director of PODER (People Organized in Defense of Earth and Her Resources) in Austin, TX. She is a fierce community organizer, educator, and has faced down some of the harshest transnational oil corporations that were destroying the ecology and wellbeing in East Austin. Susana has participated in the civil rights movement fighting issues such as police brutality, access to fair housing, education, healthcare, and environmental injustices.

Over 140 individuals came out and participated in making these tiles with family and friends! We love seeing the community come together to honor an important figure in our city.
